Tier S Risk of Rain 2 (BEST characters) – These are the strongest characters in Risk of Rain 2. They’re extremely powerful and can survive most situations with ease. They’re also very difficult to kill and can dish out a lot of damage.
Tier A Risk of Rain 2 (Strong characters) – The A-tier characters on our Risk of Rain 2 tier list are also pretty great. They follow in the steps of the S-tier ones, can be good and survive many situations as well, and can finish runs with ease. They do lack the extra oomph though and are not that overpowered.
Tier B Risk of Rain 2 (Decent characters) – These characters aren’t as versatile or powerful as the higher-tier ones, but they are still worth using. They have at least one major weakness that keeps them from reaching the top tiers. They can still help you finish your runs relatively fast.
Tier C Risk of Rain 2 (Average characters) – These are average-to-good characters that aren’t necessarily bad choices by any means but also don’t excel in any one area enough to make them stand out as a decent choice. They can clear the early waves in Simulacrum with ease but they might struggle as more enemies keep on spawning.
Tier D Risk of Rain 2 (Weak characters) – At the moment we think that these Risk of Rain 2 characters are not that great and you should probably avoid playing with them, especially if you’re trying to clear as many waves as quickly as possible.

As you can see, at the moment the best characters in Risk of Rain 2 are:
- Void Fiend
- Captain
- Loader
You can’t really go wrong playing with either of these 3 survivors.
Void Fiend (S Tier)
As one of the latest additions to the game (unlocked by getting Survivors of the Void DLC) Void Fiend is pretty much the best character in the game right now.
Switching between its multiple forms makes this character very versatile and a pretty much swiss army knife, by having the ability to both deal huge amounts of AOE damage and Single target damage, especially to ranged enemies.
What’s more Void Fiend’s controlled form also has a heal, which you know… comes in handy.
Captain (S Tier)
It’s no wonder that we see Captain so high on our Risk of Rain 2 tier list. He’s been pretty much every player’s favorite since the early access days of the game.
One of the many reasons why players love Captain is his Vulcan Shotgun primary. Even though his mobility is not the best, his incredible firepower and defense make this character great in every aspect of the game.
Sure it requires a bit of time and practice to learn how to move effectively with him, but if you do that, Captain will reward you with an insane damage output that can dominate everyone.
Loader (S Tier)
We all know that Loader is an excellent single damage character, capable of killing every boss in the game, well maybe less Mythrix (the final boss) as that can be a little difficult without any ranged attacks. Still, Loader has crazy good mobility and the highest amount of HP in the game after MUL-T.
Not only that but, most Risk of Rain 2 players agree that she is literally the best melee character in the game. And we agree with that. Oh and her Scrap Barrier makes her immune to fall damage, so that’s nice.
Even though she might not be suited for beginners because she requires a bit more time and patience to understand perfectly how to use her abilities, Loader will clear wave after wave of enemies and you will never feel bored doing it.
What’s more interesting about Loader is that she’s still top tier in Risk of Rain 2 meta, even when she hasn’t received any updates for a while now.
How We Created This Risk of Rain 2 Tier List?
With each gaming tier list that we create, we start off by playing the game ourselves, making notes about our experience and who we think are the best characters in the game.
But to avoid any opinion bias we also try to get information from other Risk of Rain 2 players from communities such as the official Discord server and the subreddit.
This allows us to make a more informed decision on how to create our Risk of Rain 2 characters rankings.
Still, at the end of the day, we ranked these Risk of Rain 2 survivors based on their performance both for solo and co-op play, and how fast and effective they are in crushing waves of enemies without dying. After all, Risk of Rain 2 is a rogue-like game, so dying pretty much sucks.
But since no tier list is completely accurate, and everyone has their own unique playstyle, please take this Risk of Rain 2 tier list with a grain of salt.

What is Risk of Rain 2?
Risk of Rain 2 is a roguelike third-person action shooting game that was released on PC on March 28, 2019. The game was developed by Hopoo Games who were also responsible for the first installment in this series.
Risk of Rain 2 gameplay is very much like its predecessor. The player starts off by choosing one of the 11 characters also known as Survivors.
Each character has its own unique abilities so players will have to experiment with each one before they find which character suits them best.
After choosing their character, players then have to choose the difficulty level. In Risk of Rain 2, there are three initial difficulty levels: Drizzle, Rainstorm, and Monsoon.
The hardest game mode Monsoon is aimed at hardcore and veteran players because the number of enemies will increase and they will also become much harder to defeat.
Not only that but the player’s health regeneration starts at 0.6, which is not ideal when you’re going to get swarmed by waves of enemies.
There’s also the Eclipse mode which is an alternative to the other 3 difficulties, with Eclipse you can stack challenge modifiers to create a mode that’s even more hardcore than Monsoon.
To have a chance in those levels you will surely need to use one of the best characters that we have ranked in our Risk of Rain 2 tier list above.
Once these choices have been made there is no going back so choose wisely!
Players can also choose whether they want to play alone or with friends via local co-op or online co-op modes. You’d want to choose a Risk of Rain character that pairs nicely with other survivors in your team.
