Monster Hunter Rise Weapon Tier List (Sunbreak)

If you are new to Monster Hunter Rise and don’t know which weapons to use, this guide will help. We’ve analyzed all of them for the new Sunbreak update and ranked them in our Monster Hunter Rise weapon tier list based on how effective they are in battle.

Keep in mind this Monster Hunter Rise weapon tier list is based on the Sunbreak expansion and not the base MHR game. For the base game (without the Sunbreak DLC) some of these weapons will be ranked a bit lower, for example, the Lance and Gunlance would be a B-tier, but in Sunbreak they are quite good and so they are now sitting on the A-tier.

Obviously, these are just the author’s opinions, so yes, there will be some players that won’t agree with our MHRise tier list, but that’s ok, it’s normal, we’re not all the same and we all have our preferences, and favorite weapons.

All weapons have trade-offs, whether high single-hit damage or excellent guarding. We’ve ranked them all accordingly in our tier list to help you find the best one for your play style!

But first, let’s quickly take a look at the definitions of each tier ranking:

S-Tier – Monster Hunter Rise Weapons

S-Tier - Monster Hunter Rise Weapons

While you can use any type of weapon to play Monster Hunter Rise, some weapons are just better than others. The most powerful tier S rank weapons in the game include:

  • Dual Blades
  • Great Sword
  • Charge Blade
  • Switch Axe
  • Insect Glaive
  • Bow
  • Light Bowgun

Although these weapons are not as powerful as the ones recommended above, they’re still great picks for any player of Monster Hunter Rise, especially with the new Sunbreak buffs:

  • Sword & Shield
  • Long Sword
  • Lance
  • Gunlance
  • Hunting Horn
  • Heavy Bowgun

I know that some would put Long Sword in the S tier, but for me, I feel that it’s not that great in this new update so I’ve put it on A, but heck, if you know how to utilize it properly and take advantage of all it’s features then it might be an S tier for you.

Note: While S-tier weapons can be very powerful, players may find that lower-ranked weapons suit their playing style better. So don’t be afraid to experiment with these as well.

And lastly, here are the weakest weapons in Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak:

  • Hammer

Sorry, Hammer mains 🙁 but the hammer just isn’t that great, sure the knockback effect is fun and satisfying but that’s about it really.
