On your quest to save the princesses from the evil wizard? Then you need to check out the best characters in the game, through our very own Castle Crashers tier list.
Castle Crashers is a video game released in 2008 by the indie developer The Behemoth.
It was created to be played with four players, each with their own character and set of special powers. The objective of the game is to defeat the evil wizard who has kidnapped your princesses and a magic crystal from your kingdom.
The gameplay is similar to that of a platformer, but with more emphasis on hack and slash combat than platforming skills.
The player controls one of over 30+ characters who are on a quest to save the princesses from the evil wizard.
Each character has its own starting weapon and abilities, specialties, elemental, splash and projectile attacks, and more.
So because of that, we’ve decided to create our very own Castle Crashers tier list to help new players but also old-school veterans alike choose the best characters in the game.
Castle Crashers Tier List
We’ve ranked the characters in Castle Crashers according to their magic attacks, and overall versatility when it comes to going through the levels on the Insane Mode of the campaign.
The best characters in Castle Crashers are ranked in the S tier, while the weakest were placed in Tier D. So let’s start off with the very best:
Castle Crashers: Tier S (Best Characters)
These are the best knights that outperform every other character on the Insane Mode, regardless of their starting weapon:

Castle Crashers: Tier A (Good Characters)
These are still very good characters that you can use either solo or in co-op mode to go through many levels without problems.
- Fire Demon
- Orange Knight
- Pink Knight
Castle Crashers: Tier B (Average Characters)
Your average Castle Crashes characters, these are neither great nor bad, they are in between. Strong enough to clear most levels but not great enough to go too further.
- Cult Minion
- Gray Knight
- Royal Guard
Castle Crashers: Tier C
Slightly below-average characters, these knights aren’t really that great, and shouldn’t really be used unless you like their specialties and magic attacks, in that case, yeah go for it and have fun.
- Killer Beekeeper
- Open Faced Gray Knight
- Stove Face
Tier D Crashers
In our personal opinion, we believe that these are the weakest characters in the game right now. You should only use these if you haven’t unlocked better ones from the higher tiers.
- Green Knight
- Hatty Hattington
This Castle Crashers tier list was created to give beginners some information on which character may be a good match for their play style.
Tier lists are not exact, they are there to give you an idea of what we or the Castle Crashers community thinks on a given character. All in all, the tier list is just a guideline and it’s up to you to try out each character (or all of them) and learn their magic attacks, choose one that you like the best and that fits your playstyle.
Castle Crashers Tier List FAQ
We believe that Blue Knight, Fencer, Industrialist, and Iceskimo are the strongest characters in the game.
We have created this tier list by following a process that we go through every time when it’s time to rank the best characters of a game.
We first played the game ourselves numerous times to get a feel of the characters ourselves, and then we also took data and feedback from other players from the online community such as the official Castle Crashers Discord server or the Reddit subreddit.
Blue Knight is a very good character simply because he has exclusive abilities, pair that with easy and good unlock paths, and you have the perfect combination of a great crasher.
At the moment we think that the following are the best weapons in Castle Crashers: Man Catcher, Butcher’s Knife, Fishing Spear, and NG Golden Sword.
