For that, we have put together this Modern Warfare 2 weapon tier list where we have ranked all the weapons in the game from best to worst.
The MW2 weapons on our tier list are ranked in four tiers:
- S Tier – These are the best weapons in the game, and you should use them as often as you can.
- A Tier – These weapons are very good and should be used frequently.
- B Tier – These weapons are decent, but there are better options available for specific situations.
- C Tier – These weapons aren’t worth using at all unless you’re stuck with nothing else to use.

We think these are the best weapons in Modern Warfare 2, and you should use them whenever possible. They have a lot of firepower and are good at pretty much all ranges (except maybe the SMG), but they excel in their weapon category and they are a top pick for a reason.

Straight up without a doubt, the best MW2 Assault rifle is the M4, it has a great rate of fire and damage, a good range and it’s pretty much the best overall gun in Modern Warfare 2 at the moment, hence why it sits in the top of our MW2 tier list.
Best MW2 SMG
SMGs (Submachine Guns) are best used in close-quarter combat, especially when you need to give a lot of support to your teammates. The current best MW2 SMG is the Lachmann Sub which is also ranking in the top of our overall best Modern Warfare 2 weapons tier list.
What Are LMG in MW2
The best MW2 LMG has got to be the RAPP H. Light machine guns are best used at medium range, and they’re great in the support role. Light machine guns can be fired in bursts or fully automatic, and they’re best used when engaging multiple enemies. LMGs are also ideal when you need to engage enemies who are behind cover.
What are Snipers in MW2
The MCPR-300 is one of the best sniper rifle in Modern Warfare 2. It has high damage value and long range, making it ideal for taking down enemies with one shot from a distance. While this weapon can be used at close range, it is not recommended to do so as there are better options available such as the Expedite-12 shotgun or the M4 assault rifle.
How to use MW2 Shotguns
Shotguns are the most powerful close-range weapons in the game and are best used in close quarters. They’re best utilized when you have to get up close and personal with your enemy, or if you want to take out a large group of enemies at once. The best MW2 shotgun at the moment is definitely the Expedite-12.

The weapon system in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been significantly improved from its predecessor. All weapons now have a recoil pattern, which means you will have to compensate for that when firing.
