Want to win more games? Then check out our Mario Tennis Aces tier list below, which ranks all the best (and worst) characters in the game by their playstyle in a variety of situations.
Mario Tennis Aces Tier Ranks Explanation
S Tier – These are the best characters in Mario Tennis Aces. They’re so good that we recommend them over all other characters, especially when you need help winning! They’re perfect for every game mode and they aren’t that hard to master either.
A Tier – The following characters are also very good in Mario Tennis Aces, although they are not as powerful as the S-tier characters, they are still powerful enough to win most battles. These should be prioritized above the characters below.
B Tier – While these characters may not be the best on the tennis court, they can still be useful if you don’t have any other higher-ranked Mario Tennis Aces characters.
C Tier – These characters are average in the game and are not as good as the best characters but they are not that useless either. You can win games using these characters, but it might be a bit harder.
D Tier – These characters have their uses, but in most situations, you’ll be better off using one of the characters above. If you have to use a D Tier character, try to avoid using them in situations where their weaknesses will be exposed such as against hard counters.
F Tier – In our opinion, these are the least effective characters in Mario Tennis Aces. You may disagree, but we recommend avoiding them if you want to win.

How Did We Create This Mario Tennis Aces Tier List?
We hope this tier list is reflective of the current Mario Tennis Aces metagame. We had a blast testing out our own strategies and attacks, but we also consulted Facebook groups, Reddit, and a fan-made Discord server for all things related to Mario Sports on the Switch platform.
As a result of our research, we’ve created a tier list that organizes the most effective characters in Mario Tennis Aces into five categories: S-tier (best), A-tier (very good), B-tier (good), C-tier (average), D (weak), F-tier (worst). We hope this Mario Tennis Aces tier list helps you select the best character for your play style!
The list includes characters that are commonly used in the current game meta and are effective for all game modes.
As Mario Tennis Aces players, we all have our own personal preferences for who we believe is the best character.
But we’re always open to learning more about our favorite Mario Tennis Aces characters, so feel free to leave a comment if you have any insights or tips that could help us become better players.

Mario Tennis Aces Tips For Beginners
If this is your first time playing Mario Tennis Aces or any other tennis game for that matter, here are some tips that can help give you an edge early on:
1. Choose the Right Character
There are many playable characters available from the start in Mario Tennis Aces.
Each has a different set of stats (power, technique, etc.), so choose one that suits your style of play best!
Some characters are better at serving than others; that’s why you can take some inspiration from our Mario Tennis Aces tier list above and pick a character that has more chances to win your games.
2. Know the basics
The first thing you need to know is that there are a couple of basic types of shots: topspin, which goes up and down, and slice, which goes across the court.
To get a topspin shot press A. To do a slice shot, press B. You can also do a charge shot by holding A, B, or Y.
3. Practice your serves!
You can’t win unless you serve well. The most important thing is to keep your serve short enough so that your opponent doesn’t have time to attack it — but not too short so that they can simply return it! Practice your serves in free play mode until you’ve got it down pat!
4. Play with friends!
Mario Tennis Aces offers local multiplayer for up to four players on a single Switch system with wireless controllers — and it’s just as much fun as playing online against strangers!
There’s nothing quite like smashing your friend’s tennis ball right back at them after they’ve just hit an ace off yours!
What is Mario Tennis Aces?
Mario Tennis Aces is a tennis game developed by Nintendo for the Switch platform where you can play as characters from the Mario universe, including both heroes and villains.
You’ll have several different characters at your disposal, each with its own special moves.
~ Hint: Check which are the best characters to use with our Mario Tennis Aces tier list from above. ~
They range from simple attacks like jump shots to more complicated power moves like charge shots, power shots, or drop shots.
Each character also has unique animations when they score a point or ace their opponent — it’s fun just watching them all go at it!
Nevertheless, Mario Tennis Aces is a fun, fast-paced tennis game that’s easy to pick up and play.
Mario Tennis Aces is an exciting new entry in the Mario sports series. It takes elements from games like Super Smash Bros., giving players more control over their shots and adding a few new mechanics along the way.
If you’re familiar with the Mario Sports titles on Nintendo consoles — Mario Golf: World Tour or Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash — then you’ll have some idea what to expect here.
This is another game that’s easy to pick up and play, but there’s enough depth here for serious players who want to dig into its systems.
