Welcome to our Path of Exile 2 Tier List! In this list we will go over all available classes and break down which one is the best start for beginners.

At last, after five years in the making, Path of Exile 2 is now available in Early Access. The sequel was announced at Exilecon 2019 and since then the community has been eagerly awaiting the prequel of Path of Exile.
On 6th December 2024 Grinding Gear Games stepped into Early Access for PC on Steam and Epic, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You can get an Early Access Key on the official website.

Best Beginner Classes in Path of Exile 2
Even in Early Access we can choose from six different classes with their own strengths and weaknesses, ascendancies and builds. We have got some great melee, shield-protected classes like the Warrior or fast long-distance fighters like the new class Mercenary. Each class has its own skill tree and different options to build. You are not bound by predefined skills and passives.
Which class is the best fit for the next hundred hours of your Path of Exile 2 journey?
Warrior

The Warrior is a simple and good class for a beginner if you like melee fights and want to block attacks with your shield. He has a lot of sustain due to his armour, shield and durability. His AoE skills, like Earthquake and Ground Slam, allow him to easily defeat enemies with his mace. Boost your attacks with powerful totems or war cries.
Mercenary

If you like playing a class with shooter-like skills, you’ll love the Mercenary class, which is another great addition alongside the other ranged classes. This time, you can wield a crossbow to take out the enemies with different types of shots. Additionally you can throw grenades for stun, explosion and poison skills. Or you can call on Ballista Totems to help you take out your enemies from above.
Witch

If you don’t want to attack alone, choose the witch. With her summoned minions you can deal a lot of damage even without attacking. This is a great choice for the first Acts and for taking on the bosses. She lacks a bit in survivability, especially without her minions. You can increase her damage output by using elemental or chaos spells.
Monk

One of the newest classes in Path of Exile 2 is the Monk. He’s a fast melee fighter who’s an expert in elemental skills and has a lot of ranged skills as well. His skills are spezialized on frost, shock and stun. If you’re looking for more mobility than the slow warrior and want to have fun with power charges, which boost damage for strong ranged elemental skills like Wave of Frost, then the Monk is a great choice for you.
Ranger

If you like non-spellcaster with ranged skills, the Ranger is the right class for you. Similar to the Mercenary, she has a lot to offer when it comes down to ranged skills, such as Lightning Arrows or Rain of Arrows. You can boost your damage with support gems that add extra projectiles and more shots to keep your enemies pinned down. She really shines, especially against bosses.
Sorceress

The Sorceress is the master of magic spells. With her you can defeat your enemies with fire, lightning or ice damage. You can use the right support gems to set up combos that are triggered by certain conditions. However, she is a bit vulnerable in the early stages of the game and needs some time to reach her full potential.
Summary
Every class in Path of Exile 2 has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. Some of them are a great start into the early game, like the Warrior, Witch or Mercenary. Others needs some experience, the right setup and time to shine in the late game.
If you’ve played Path of Exile, you’re probably familiar with some classes from the prequel game, as well as many skill and support gems. With the Monk, Mercenary, and Sorceress classes, we have a wider range of options and some intriguing new possibilities.
Grinding Gear Games has already announced that more classes will be coming and we’re very excited about them. What skills will they have?
We hope this Path of Exile 2 tier list will help you decide which class is right for you, whether you’re just starting out or you’re a veteran player.
